Service Opportunities at Church of Our Savior
Downtown Community Meals
Each Wednesday evening, from 5:30 to 6:30, members of Church of Our Savior, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and First Christian Church plan, prepare, and serve a meal to feed low-income and homeless persons in the community. A donation of $2.00 per person or an in-kind donation of a food item is suggested in order to keep the meal self-sustaining. All are welcome!
The priest administers an Almoner’s Fund to help persons in need. Money is given by members of the congregation to sustain the fund, and all disbursements are confidential. Please contact the priest if you are in need or would like to contribute to the fund.
Additional Service Opportunities
In addition to the above service ministries of Church of Our Savior, other opportunities for service happen throughout the year, including:
Each year, the Outreach Committee raises money to supplement teaching supply budgets at local public schools. The money is raised through various activities throughout the year.
Christmas Wreath Raffle
In December, the Outreach Committee hosts a Christmas Wreath Raffle. Various individuals and groups in the parish sponsor and decorate a Christmas wreath. Individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford Christmas decorations may sign-up for the wreath they most want to have. A drawing is done prior to Christmas and the wreaths are delivered to the winning individuals.
United Thank Offering
The mission of UTO is to expand the circle of thankful people. In addition to encouraging daily prayers and the awareness of God’s blessings, UTO invites financial giving twice a year, in the Spring and in the Fall. Church of Our Savior participates in these in-gatherings.
Christmas and Easter Special Offerings
Each year at Christmas and Easter, a special offering is taken to benefit local, diocesan, national, or international ministries or non-profits. The Vestry decides yearly who the beneficiaries of these offerings are.
For a number of years, Church of Our Savior has sponsored a child through El Hogar, a Honduran orphanage.
